Story-based movement and imaginal play supports individual expression and collective unity. Designed to engage participants’ creative and embodied presence, the way the services are offered ranges, depending on the wants and needs of your community. At its heart, this work cultivates a sense of wonder and respect for self and other, inviting participants to see from different perspectives and embody imaginal characteristics.
Developed during my spring semester intensive at Naropa University, working closely with Alaya preschool- a nurturing place that meets each child in the present moment for the awakening of the heart and the developing brain- as well as a personal mentorship in Waldorf education through one-to-one child care, the work aims to connect children to the joy of movement and storytelling. This work recognizes and enacts the power of story-driven experiences for the education of all age groups, inviting participants to step into the environment of a story. Stories have the ability to spark child-like wonder. When invited into the story, participants nurture their creative capacities through embodied expression.
Beginning with warm up activities that bring emergence to life and concluding with circling, the work from start to finish is built within a loving and communal container. At the beginning of the experience, intentions may arise. Participants are invited to move through these intentions and witness how they may transform. To conclude, participants gather and reflect on their personal and shared experiences. Through community circling, participants are invited by the curiosity of facilitators to share their experiences. These moments of circling offer space for integration, fostering a sense of community and allowing participants to express their diverse experiences. Community circling invites participants to respect the unique perspectives of oneself and others as well as revere the collective experience of the whole.
Story-based movement and imaginal play is an immersive experienced designed for creative expression and community connection. This work aims to cultivate one’s creative capacities to imagine, express, and play through the exploratory experience of an environmental narrative.
